If I need a new one what is a good replacement for the Airport Time Capsule that includes the distribution function or do I need to do that in a different way. To further complicate things I am told that Apple have discontinued manufacture of the Airport Time Capsule. I have checked this out and it appears my impression may be incorrect and I may need a new backup device. I was under the impression from my Time Machine information in Preferences that "the oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full" and that I could just use my current setup indefinitely accepting the fact that old stuff is deleted. It appears the disc is full and my backups have stopped. It is my backup disk and is being used as a distribution device for several ethernet connected devices around my home because I do not have enough plugs in my modem. The latest branded routers have supported the 802.11ac standard. Of course, they were easy to set up with an iPhone or Mac and had a minimalist design without external antennas. Apple routers were relatively expensive devices. Change Secure Shared Disks to With a device password and enter the password. Other gadgets included AirPort routers and the AirPort Time Capsule. Now move to the Disks Icon and the File Sharing tab. Change the Time Capsule name to something that makes sense, or follow your network standards. A typical broadband modem has four WAN ports on the back that you can connect an Ethernet cable too. From the Airport Utility, select the Airport Icon and the Time Capsule tab. Connect the Ethernet cable to the broadband modem or router. Use the provided Ethernet cable to connect to the WAN port on the Time Capsule.
